The huts will provide blankets and pillows, so we do not need to carry tents or sleeping bags.
Take the 1 to the Hsinchu interchange (新竹交流道) and get on county 122 or take the 2nd Northern Highway (北二高) to Zhulin interchange (竹林交流道) and cross to the south side of the Touchian river to get on county 122. Drive up the valley to Wufeng 五峰, the administrative center of Wufeng township.
National Highway 2 -- 90 km – Jhulin Exchange – 5 km – Provincial Road 120 – Jhudong – 34 km –Provincial Road 122 – Tuchang – 25 km -- Dalu Forest Road – Guanwu Remember to fill up at the Jhudong gas station before going up into the mountains. ＊二高90k處竹林交流道－5km/120縣道→竹東－34km/122縣道→土場－25km/大鹿林道→觀霧。記得先在竹東鎮加油站，加滿油再上山。

The Shei-Pa National Park (雪霸國家公園) includes 51 peaks reaching over 3,000 meters. Mt. Syue, 1t 3,886 meters is Taiwan's second highest peak. The fractured south face inspired the Atayal to name the mountain Sekoan, meaning "broken cliffs" (岩壁的裂溝). Han Chinese settlers transliterated the sound to 雪翁山 and then simply 雪山. In Saisiat (賽夏族) legend, is their original homeland.

Guanwu Forest Recreation Area is located in the southeast corner of Sheipa National Park. Administered by the Forestry Bureau, the recreation areas covers 907.42 ha at an altitude of 2000 m, enjoys an annual temperature of 14-15 C and an annual rainfall of 2500 mm. 觀霧森林遊樂區位於雪霸國家公園的東南方，屬遊憩區，管理單位為林務局， 面積907.42公頃，海拔高2000公尺，年均溫14-15℃，年雨量為2500mm。
The 20 ha Taiwan Sassafras Conservation Area at the 3 km mark has been set aside to preserve the food of the nearly extinct broad-tailed swallowtail butterfly larva. 3 km處，就是「台灣檫樹生態保護區」，面積約20公頃，是為了瀕臨絕種的寬尾鳳蝶幼蟲的食物所設立的。
The Madara River trail head is at At 20 km. Another 4 km brings you to Cabin 99, and continuing another 7.5 km brings you to Dabajian Mountain. 20 km處可抵達馬達拉溪登山口，步行4km可抵達「九九山莊」 續行7.5 km就可至大壩尖山，瞧瞧大自然的鬼斧神工。
The Guanwu Area is a restricted area. Visitors must obtain a Class B mountain permit from the Cingcyuan checkpoint. ＊ 觀霧地區為管制區，須於清泉檢查所辦理乙種入山證。
Entering Dalu Forest Road, the Western Trail or Leshan Forest Trail requires obtaining a Class A mountain pass from Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters Conservation Department. 進入大鹿林道東、西線與樂山林道，須向雪霸國家公園管處保育課，辦理甲種入山證。
Common species include: Taiwan Yuhina (冠羽畫眉), Gray-throated Minivet (紅山椒), Green-backed Tit (青背山雀), White-eared Sibia (白耳畫眉)
